Il morfogeno crea le coordinate del corpo: rilasciato da un gruppo di cellule, diffonde nel tessuto formando un gradiente di concentrazione. Ogni cellula legge quel gradiente da sola, senza istruzioni centrali, e sa dove si trova, quanto crescere, in quale direzione. Un sistema di posizionamento molecolare che opera invisibile in ogni essere vivente. Qui diventa un click del mouse.
Il sistema parte da una curva chiusa. Un campo di Perlin noise modula il boundary: introduce eterogeneità nell'ambiente di crescita. La curva si dispiega seguendo le regole della crescita differenziale; ogni segmento si suddivide, ogni nodo respinge i vicini troppo vicini. Il risultato è una membrana corrugata, un organismo contenuto che piega su se stesso.
Il click introduce una perturbazione locale. Repulsione. La curva risponde da quel punto, cresce differenzialmente a partire dalla perturbazione. Non disegno la forma. Segnalo. Il sistema risponde.
Il codice è costruito in collaborazione con AI: descrivo la regola biologica, il sistema la traduce in geometria.
Quello che rimane è l'accumulo ottico di ogni stato della curva mentre si dispiegava — la storia completa di una forma che non esisterà mai uguale una seconda volta. Magenta su nero.

The morphogen creates the body's coordinates: released by a group of cells, it diffuses through the tissue forming a concentration gradient. Each cell reads that gradient alone, without central instructions, and knows where it is, how much to grow, in which direction. A molecular positioning system, invisible, operating in every living body. Here it becomes a mouse click.
The system starts with a closed curve. A Perlin noise field modulates the boundary: it introduces heterogeneity into the growth environment. The curve unfolds following differential growth rules; each segment subdivides, each node repels neighbors that come too close. The result is a corrugated membrane, a contained organism folding back on itself.
The click introduces a local perturbation. Repulsion. The curve responds from that point, growing differentially outward from the disturbance. I don't draw the shape. I signal. The system responds.
The code is built in collaboration with AI: I describe the biological rule, the system translates it into geometry.
What remains is the optical accumulation of every state the curve passed through as it unfolded — the complete history of a form that will never exist the same way twice. Magenta on black.
